Rafting Gear Information
You will be provided with your raft, paddle, PFD and helmet before the race by American Adventure Expeditions. For those of you who would like to know, here is some information about the gear you will be using.
The rafts are 14' NRS Rafts. There will be 6 racers per boat, so there will be either 3- 2 person teams or 2 - 3 person teams per raft. Every raft will have an experienced Gorge guide with them. Raft guides will be allowed to paddle and help get racers down the river, thus, racers are encouraged to keep their raft guides well fed and hydrated. Keeping your guide strong and happy is part of your race strategy for getting downriver quickly and safely.
Each raft will have D-Rings on the inside of the raft that you can use to attach a dry bag to for your food and water, if you desire.
Racers are required to wear PFDs at all times while on the river. You will be required to wear the PFD issued to you at American Adventure Expeditions. You are not allowed to modify the PFD. You can wear a low profile bladder underneath the PFD, or hydrate with a water bottle. You are not allowed to attach or wear anything on the outside of the PFD for risk of entrapment.
Water and Food are required for this long of a rafting session. However, you need to store it in places that will keep you safe. Here are your options for water and food storage.
-Leg or Sleeve Pockets
-Small Fanny Pack
-Water Bottle (shown)
-Low Profile Water Bladder worn underneath snug PFD
-Food and Water placed in Dry Bag attached to raft D-ring.
