In 2006, Chelsea picked up a magazine and saw an advertisement for a local adventure race. She asked her husband, James, if he was interested, and there it began. She was hooked. They already biked, ran, and paddled. But the combination of the three (occasionally more) into one, was pure bliss.
Chelsea and her husband continued to race together, until he began to encourage her to pursue more competitive goals.
In 2014, Chelsea gathered her favorite racing buddies and formed the elite-level adventure racing team Journey Racing. Keep up with her adventures here on her blog.
For her real job, Chelsea is a full-time prosthetist/orthotist at Audubon Orthotic and Prosthetic Services. She's madly in love with her wonderful and handsome husband and she enjoys adventuring with him and her 2 dogs at their home in Colorado Springs.
James began adventure racing in 2006 with his wife, Chelsea. Over the next two years, they raced together as Team Veracruz in three races in Texas. They won their division in one race, but oh, how it hurt! Though Chelsea and James trained together all the time, she still performed at a much higher level than he during races, and when they moved to Colorado in 2007, that disparity grew even more... making for a sad James. Unfortunately, James had not learned to be a nice adventure racer when hungry and tired, so he decided it was better for their marriage if they stopped racing together. She's been racing with a lot more pleasant teammates since then, and he's been a lot less stressed about not keeping up with her! He loves adventure racing, though, so he helps design training sessions, helps produce races and runs support crew for the team while drinking some good beer. One of his many mantras, balance in everything, means a little adventure racing (rather than the TON enjoyed by the Chelsea) makes for a happier James.
